MY BEST BIRDS IN MICHIGAN DURING THE 2009 SEASON

I really do not consider myself to be a "rabid lister"or even a "hardcore" birder, even though my current state list is at 371 species. The 2009 season was one of my personal best. I tallied 295 species for the year. Not too bad in my opinion, seeing I really haven't made a major attempt to chase many birds or do much "hardcore birding." Below are my top birds for the 2009 season. They are listed in no particular order. Ancient Murrelet, Arctic Tern, Black Vulture, Swallow-tailed Kite, Mississippi Kite, Fish Crow,* White-winged Dove, Swainson's Hawk, Great Gray Owl, Loggerhead Shrike, Smith's Longspur, Varied Thrush, Black-backed Woodpecker, White-faced Ibis, American White Pelican, Little Gull ,Western Grebe * First State Record
